Today — a perfect day, was a reward for yesterday’s total rain out, which included exploration of the Le Mar De Grace & Ice caves.
It began in Chamonix with a fantastic morning view of Mont Blanc, though it was not the destination.

Rather, our destination was the glacier. To get there, you hop on the Montenvers -Mar de Grace Train, an historic rack and pinion cogwheel train, that runs from Chamonix through scenic terrain to the Montenvers station, at the foot of the glacier. Once there, one can only marvel the glacier, the largest glacier in France, and true witness to climate change of our time.

If you choose to proceed from the station, a cable car descends onto the glacier for even more stunning views. From there, walk down (and then up) a long long staircase to enter an ice cave cut into the living glacier.

Taking almost a full day, it was worth it .
